Best of all we are going local. Windy Acres Farm www.windyacrestn.com is an amazing farm located near us in Orlinda, TN. I have been there before and bought some great layer feed as well as some lamb sausage. The owner even invited me into her house to let me try some sausage from the kitchen. They are great and are doing great things up there. I highly recommend them. I bought the feed locally at Hillsboro Hardware www.hillsborohardware.net since it is sometimes difficult for me to get to Orlinda. Hillsboro Hardware has 25lb. bags for sale around $27. Previously I have been able to get the 50lb bags for roughly that at the farm. When you are in a pinch or just have a few backyard hens Hillsboro Hardware is very convenient.
The chickens loved the new feed. The pellets in a 3lb feeder last about 2 days. The chickens are eating everything in the 3lb feeder daily. So I will be making the trek to Orlinda this weekend if everything works out. Right now the 25lb. bag is only going to last me until Sunday.
If you want chicken eggs that are fed with organic chicken feed we are still keeping the price at $4/dozen for now until we figure out what our costs are with the change. Hopefully sourcing from the farm will help with the costs. Because right now we are at around $9/dozen in cost.
It is great to know we are supporting a great local farm and also choosing the best for our chickens and ourselves.
