Since then we have been regularly getting 5-6 eggs a day. It has been great. Once the new chickens started laying our older hen Cheeto got back in the grove and is laying again too. I thought the Silkie eggs were almost as big as a normal egg. While they might be, her eggs are not as big as the Amber chickens we have. We are getting quite a few double yokes as well.
They are eating Organic Chicken food for 90% of their ration. I would say 100%, but we give the little chickens some crumble feed which is not organic and they tend to raid the little chickens feeder sometimes. So they are not being fed 100% organic, but mostly organic. We have been giving them watermelons, cucumbers and squash sliced in half and they love it. They devour them in a few minutes. Yesterday a large bug was flying around and there was fight to see who could jump up and eat it first.
We are thankful for all the eggs we are getting, all the casseroles we are eating and if you want we have large home grown eggs for sale $4/dozen. Please help us use these eggs!
