It has got me thinking I could actually garden along a fence row outside of the fenced in area to grow some tomatoes. I also think I could use at least one bale on the opposite end of the back yard that gets quite a bit of sun.
The pros for this seem to be that I don't have to worry if the previous owner sprayed round up down the fence line because I am growing above it. Also, on the other end of the back yard has the worst dirt of any yard I have ever owned. It is hard, compacted clay with rocks. I have had a really hard time getting grass to grow there. It seems when I am done in the fall I could break open the bale and there should be some really good dirt by then in what is left of the bale. I would spread it around and then just throw out some more grass seed.
My Dad has never had a garden since we moved when I was a teenager. He has questioned the soil. This would give him an easy way to grow some things.
I am ready to get going in the garden!
