So I eventually got around to cataloging and organizing all the seeds I had currently on hand. It was really impressive how much I actually had and now will not be ordering. Also, I came across some fruit seeds I had saved. Since we have moved our blueberry bushes are not as large as we need to support our blueberry habit so we have went to Kelley's Berry Farm in Castilian Springs in the summer last year and other year's when we didn't have berries. Somewhere along the way I saved some seeds from those berries and had put them in the refrigerator in an envelope. I planted those seeds along with some apple seeds I had saved from various other sources.
About 8 years ago I had found some blueberry seeds for sale from the Kentucky Blueberry Growers. I planted them and they actually grew. I potted them up as they grew and they lasted for a couple of years as we moved a couple of times. During the moves they did get a little neglected and growing in a pot isn't the best so finally the last ones died after a few years and two moves. The seeds they sell are for Northern Highbush berries and we really need the Southern Highbush or Rabbiteyes in our area. We are on the edge in this area. I found that the winters really were not cold enough and the summers were too hot to get berries. Being a novice when I started that was just one of the things you learn.
I am interested to see if the berries will produce plants as I have never grown them from seeds I saved before. What else do I have do grow at this point. We will see in a couple of weeks what the results are and I will update the post.
