I like most growers am always looking to extend my season as much as possible. While I don't have a greenhouse yet and my hoop house experiment didn't get quite off the ground this fall due to time, I did plant some red lettuce to see what happened.
Well it is still in the garden and looking good. It has stopped growing, but what did grow in the fall is still in the garden and not affected by the frost we have had. We have eaten most of it, but some is left. In fact we act some of this head of lettuce this week.
I have also found the Chinese cabbage is still unaffected by the frost. I am going to let it go until spring as I have frozen enough for our needs for the winter. It is outside the fenced area and I have been surprised that deer have not eaten it at this point.
Until I can get my hoop house or green house built frost resistant greens will have to hold me over until I can grow more items.
